ESOS: Explained in 60 seconds

The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme, introduced by the UK government to make sure large organisations in the UK are energy efficient. Under the scheme, large organisations are required to assess their energy usage every 4 years and to identify energy saving measures.

Why is ESOS important?

ESOS compliance ensures that required companies are aware of their energy usage and are responsible for their level of energy efficiency. The UK aims to reach net zero by 2050 and to reach it's goal, we must all work together.

Who is required to comply?

It is mandatory to comply if your organisation meets the following criteria:

  • 250 or more employees, or

  • A turnover of over 50 million Euros (£44.1m) or

  • An annual balance sheet of over 43 million Euros (£37.9m)

  • Or you are an overseas organisation with over 250 employees in the UK

When is the ESOS deadline?

The qualification date for phrase 3 is 31st December 2022. Full compliance must be met by 5 December 2023 for qualifying organisations.

If you qualify or near qualifying, then we can help. By getting ahead of the ESOS deadline, you can start your energy and cost saving journey now. It is never too early to think ahead.
